Waking up can be a difficult feat. It is incredibly tempting to press the snooze button for those extra savory minutes of sleep. As a college student, I am fully aware of the challenge when it comes to waking up in the morning. However, pressing the snooze button might be hindering your ability to sleep later at night. Instead, get up and get some sunlight.
Did you know that getting 15 minutes of sunlight at dawn and at dusk can help your brain produce serotonin and melatonin a feel good and sleep hormone? Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and often improves your mood, while melatonin helps you sleep.
With Summer officially over, I understand it is hard to wake up early in the morning. The decision to wake up 15 minutes earlier might be a bit difficult, but it can be completely beneficial for your health.
Today, I want to encourage everyone to go outside during the morning and night for 15 short minutes. Try to use this time to disconnect from technology and take a moment for yourself to be fully present.
You will be surprised to see what the sunlight and sunset does for your day.

I am so excited to share a review of the recently released Chameleon Color Adapting pH Lip Balm by Ryor Cosmetics. When I first tried this product, I was driving from Orlando to Naples (about a 4 hour drive) and my lips were feeling incredibly chapped. Knowing I wanted to try this product, I grabbed for it versus my everyday Chap-stick. Not only did I experience a relief from the pain I was experiencing, my lips were moist, protected and the color ended up lasting until I went to bed that evening. When I woke up the next morning, my lips were almost completely healed, but I continued to use it throughout the day because I loved how supple my lips felt.
The lip balm is made from all-natural ingredients, so if you are like me, that is a key feature making this product even more desirable. The ingredients include:
I do not recommend applying this balm on the highways since you really do have to squeeze the tube hard. However, within minutes, I noticed the balm nourishing my lips and taking on a natural color, a deep shade of pink. This is the perfect product to use, especially these upcoming winter months.
This product is truly lovely, and a great alternative to everyday lip balms which may not have the cleanest ingredients. Thank you so much to @ourhappybox for allowing me to try this product. I highly recommend it and encourage all readers to check it out for yourself here.

Today we are sitting down with Jené Rosetorf, the creator of Luxe Botanics, an organic, luxury, ethically-sourced skincare line. I met Jené several months ago at the Indie Beauty Expo in New York City. A mutual friend insisted I meet Jené and I immediately fell in love with her line of products. I was so impressed with her deep working knowledge of botanicals from a scientific perspective, and how she gives back to the communities where her botanicals are sourced. This lovely luxurious yet uncomplicated line consists of three core botanicals to treat various skin issues. Luxe Botanics is elegant, simplistic, certified organic and so much more.
Meet Jené Rosetorf
HH: Jené, can you tell Haute and Holistic what motivated you to create Luxe Botanics?
JR: Growing up in South Africa, I was lucky to be surrounded by the most stunning natural environment. It made me understand from an early age how powerful nature’s healing abilities could be. I also had an insight into the harm inequality and social injustice could do to society which is why after a decade as a biotechnologist exploring my fascination with science, I knew I had to find a way to combine all my loves in life. Luxe Botanics is a blend of my African roots, scientific knowledge and passion for socially conscious innovation.
HH; That’s fascinating. What past experience do you have in the beauty/medical field and how did this help with the creation of your line?
JR: While I’m a biotechnologist and have a masters in nano-technology, I am self-taught in the world of skincare ingredients and formulations. My background means I’m skeptical of anything that doesn’t have peer-reviewed scientific literature to back it up, so when researching botanicals for Luxe Botanics, I painstakingly looked for proof of the most potent, skin-transforming active botanicals out there. Reviewing scientific papers comes familiar to me and as a scientist, I never get tired of the pursuit of discovery. So, not only does Luxe Botanics use the finest, most nutrient rich core botanicals, we then carefully formulate these with pure botanical ingredients and high-tech plant powered compounds synthesized from natural and organic bases. Each and every element has to serve a beneficial purpose and is hand-crafted in the lab on our urban farm. By pushing the boundaries of science, it has allowed us to create high-tech natural beauty like never before; where perishable, delicate, botanical ingredients are not compromised, but enhanced.
HH: We could not agree more with your emphasis on evidence-based research. What improvements do you hope to see in the beauty industry?
JR: I hope to see regulation updated. It hasn’t been for 80 years in the US and it’s about time! But until then, we’d like to see more brands be honest and transparent with consumers about the ingredients they use. I also hope to see more equality in the supply chain, where everyone can benefit from a beautifully made product, from the sourcing of the finest quality ingredients in a way that allows the land to continually flourish, to the results the consumer sees and feels.
HH: We are part of a campaign to unite millennials and mid-lifers. How do you bridge the gap between millennials and other generations?
JR: Sustainability and having a socially conscious ethos is non-negotiable for us. Luxe Botanics looks after the earth by sourcing only wild harvested and certified organic core botanicals through fair-trade alliances that support local communities while safeguarding the environment. Millennials are a segment that all marketers are going after, but there was never a conscious decision on our part to target them. Our focus has always been on making something we know people will love and changing the way it makes them feel when they use our beautiful botanics because they know they are doing right by others. I think these are humanistic and intrinsic values that span across all generations.
HH: Every line has a “hero” product. Can you tell us about yours?
JR: Our Marula pre-cleanser. Honestly, it’s a game changer. Soft, silky textures of Marula enriched with jojoba and rosehip oil literally melt make-up, pollution and dirt off your face with the most energizing aromatherapeutic scent. It’s hard not to feel more positive and energized after using.
HH: Tell us a bit about Luxe Botanics and what makes it so special.
JR: Our Guiding Philosophy at Luxe Botanics is Nature to Nature, where we’re inspired by nature’s most time-honored, visibly proven botanical ingredients. We harness the skin-transforming powers of active, exotic botanicals, which are selected based on scientific performance and sustainability that allow skin to thrive naturally. Our potent, regenerative beauty elixirs are conscientiously crafted with plant-powered innovation deeply nourishing and caring for skin.
HH: Many companies are demonstrating their philanthropic commitments. How does Luxe Botanics give back to its community?
JR: We believe conscious luxury has the potential to combat social inequality because of the rarity of ingredients, skilled artisanship, precision, and respect in production methods. At Luxe Botanics we believe in giving back to the communities that harvest and process our core botanicals and are proud to be a part of a global business community that’s creating inspiring, positive change in our world through a philosophy of Buy1Give1. This means that every time you purchase a product from Luxe Botanics, you help us support communities in Africa with a focus on supporting disadvantaged women and children. When you purchase one of our Marula range, a school child in Kenya will receive books, a school uniform, and shoes. Our Camu line supports nursery school children in Ethiopia with nutritious meals. When you choose an item from our Kigelia range, a woman in Malawi will receive 1 day of business training. And when you select a Discovery Kit a school child in Kenya will receive textbooks. To date our Luxe Botanics tribe has made a total of 300 positive impacts to others.
HH: What is your message that you want to spread with Luxe Botanics?
JR: That women do not have to choose between efficacy, helping the environment and being socially conscious. For those who want to allow their skin to thrive naturally, there are brands out there that truly align beauty with health from within.
HH: You write about the wellness conscious woman. Tell me a little more about this and mindful skincare?
JR: The wellness conscious woman nurtures both well-being for body and mind. She believes in small indulgences and takes the time to take care of herself, making meditative, mindful decisions to embrace life more fully. Luxe Botanics is the definitive Mindful Skincare Ritual for the wellness conscious woman, which means we deliver luxurious and effective skincare that enriches both skin health, nature and the community, instilling wellness as part of a holistic daily ritual.

Never was a truer sentiment spoken than this, which perfectly describes the relationship between my mother and me, the creators of Haute and Holistic, a women’s website determined to bridging the generational gap between women today. My mom, Elizabeth Trattner, has always been my role model. My admiration for her is endless. Not only does she have this charismatic and luminescent personality, but she was an international model and women’s rights advocate. Facing a life-threatening auto-immune condition thirty years ago, she was determined to regain and take control of her health. Not only did she accomplish this, she went on to become a doctor of Integrative and Chinese Medicine, forging a unique career path more than twenty years ago. She even appeared on Oprah with her mentor and our dear friend, Dr. Andrew Weil, to share her story. When I was born, she committed to raising me in a mindful way, in a holistic household. Like I said before, she is pretty great.
From a young age, I knew my mom was way cool and unlike other moms. As I got older, I realized just how versatile my mom truly was. So, when other adults would say “Wow, she is so much like you,” I wasn’t offended or put off like other teenagers might be. In fact, I prided myself on being similar to her. Imagine, a 13 year-old being compared to someone she viewed as Wonder Woman, it doesn’t get much better.
Fast forward to my senior year of high school, I started writing for an anti-bullying and women’s motivational blog, The Lady Code Blog. It was this experience where I developed a love for Journalism. Although I previously considered a career in medicine, I did not necessarily want to follow in my mother’s exact footsteps. Despite this decision, my mom continues to support me in all my endeavors, ranging from my state and national pageant titles, reporting for pageant blogs and every one of my speech and theater performances. Her never-ending support really shone when I applied for colleges all over the country, yet decided to accept a full scholarship to the University of Central Florida, where I am currently studying Broadcast Journalism and able to continue working as a model (sound familiar?).
Bridging the Gap
For years, my mom and I have bounced around the idea of working together to merge our love of our fellow sisterhood. We were encouraged by others who told us how great we are together as a team and that we possess a certain “marketing appeal.” This past Spring while attending the Indie Beauty Expo in Dallas, we realized the impact that working together could have. People expressed respect for my mom’s medical knowledge and loved that I am a millennial with extensive knowledge of health and wellness, the consequence of growing up in an holistic household immersed in Chinese and integrative medicine. We have always eaten organic food, we shun products with toxic chemicals and strive to minimize our carbon footprint because these things are all vital to the health of our bodies and the earth. It all came together earlier this year when we officially launched Haute and Holistic.
Haute and Holistic
Today, whether you are a woman in your fifties or a twenty-something young woman, you most likely are reading magazines, blogs and books about how to eat healthy, lose weight, take care of your skin or pick the right makeup for yourself. However, it is a challenge for experienced “mid-lifers” to appeal to someone from a younger demographic and vice versa. This is where the idea of Haute and Holistic came from, drawing from the perspectives of two generations – millennials and mid-lifers, who focus on green products. Uniting medical facts with the lifestyle experience of a millennial, we present balanced information for women of all ages to create broad appeal and education for everyone.
Having been in the Health and Wellness field for almost thirty years has given me great perspective regarding women’s bodies, their wellbeing and healthy aging. When I began, actively seeking a healthy lifestyle was deemed crunchy, bohemian and counter-culture. Now people will grab onto almost anything if they think it will make them young, healthy and strong. It is important to educate women of all ages regarding regimens that work and which is supported by medical evidence, whether it be a modality of health, nutrition or a beauty product. There is a tremendous amount of noise in the media right now because the beauty and wellness industry is growing exponentially. The truth offers the best medicine of all and my goal is to help educate women in leading healthy, happy and spiritual lives. I am considered an expert source in health, wellness and green beauty. I have been fortunate to be cited as a medical source in national magazines and publications. My advice has been featured in hundreds of magazines and online publications. I serve on the Beauty Meets Wellness Initiative within the Global Wellness Institute. This group connects beauty, wellness and medical leaders redefine standards in the beauty industry and create aesthetic responsibility worldwide. It is my honor to educate women of all ages truly bridging the gap. Women have the power to change the world and when our body, mind and spirit are aligned we can do anything!!!
Charlotte’s Life Experience
As mentioned earlier in this post, my mom almost died 30 years ago. She has an autoimmune disorder which put her in a medically induced come and on a ventilator. She spent over 180 days in the hospital right out of college. I, unfortunately, inhered similar health issues and must be very careful of the foods I eat and medications I take. I have had the good fortune of growing up in a household which values self-care and care for the environment. One of my mom’s many goals in life is to ensure I avoid the consequences of our toxic environment. As a devoted mother and doctor, she offers practical, methodical and medically-backed guidance for maintaining good health. Furthermore, I was diagnosed with a learning disability, apraxia at a young age which led me to create my service program, Just Like Me 2, sharing my story of perseverance with the public.
We now share our collective message with you. I would not change my situation for the world. My experience allows me to inspire other young women to live a healthy lifestyle in a manner that is more relatable than conventional women’s magazines, while my mom appeals to other mothers and an older generation of women seeking a deeper perspective. We truly are bridging that gap between mothers and daughters.
Together we want to work on bridging the generational gap in a life well-lived for everyone and provide good evidence-based straight-forward advice and encouragement for women of all ages to be the best they possibly can be, a concept that defies age stereotyping. We are honored to be part of this wonderful campaign of Bridging the Gap.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Little Moon Essentials is helping us raise Awareness
As we continue to create awareness about this disease that affects 1 out of 8 women (click here for more information.) One way to help cope with stress hormones is to have a nightly ritual. Rituals help the body ground down and produce oxytocin, the feel good hormone. Taking a bath or using lotion or aromatherapy before bedtime is the perfect prescription. Little Moon Essentials is an organic bath and body company from Colorado. They produce beautiful aromatherapy sprays, lotions, sugar scrubs and bath salts. We have teamed up with Little Moon Essentials to give away one full size gift box a week to raise awareness for breast cancer awareness month. We love them because their products contain essential oils that are nature’s perfect prescription for making you feel better.
Here are some of my favorite essential oils for relaxation that are in Little Moon Essentials products:
Lavender is the superstar in the essential oil world. It too has anti-microbial, fungal and viral activity to it. It also in an analgesic, sedative, antiaxiolitic, it helps with headaches, lice, cysts, muscle pain, digestive issues, depression, nervousness and many other mood disorders. It can also help with PMS as wellbeing. Lavender is a wonderful first aid remedy, especially for burns; it is among the safest and most widely used essential oils. Lavender was used during the Victorian times for fainting. There are over 350 studies on lavender demonstrating everything from mood enhancement and balance to pain relief. It brings balance both physically and emotionally. I like many uses for lavender. For relaxation my favorite aromatherapy scent is Clear skies Ahead by Little Moon Essentials.
Rosemary was burned in French hospitals to purify the air up until the 20th century. This essential oil is also an excellent anti-bacterial, antifungal and antiviral. It is an excellent antiseptic as well and why is was used in hospitals a long time ago. It is an excellent tonic and is very similar to lavender as far as uses but rosemary is more of a stimulant and lavender is more of a sedative or has a calming nature to it. Research has demonstrated that it helps with memory and cognition. Rosemary can be used in cooking. I have used the essential oil diffused to help in memory and recall for test taking. A great mixture to help with cognition is to use a few drops of rosemary, lemon, orange and lavender in a spray bottle with distilled water to lift mood.
Rose Rose is a beauty favorite, It is used in many perfumes body oils and face creams. Egyptian rose, Rose helps ground and center you before bedtime. A recent study demonstrated aromatherapy with rose oil can reduce anxiety
Euclayptus: when we think of cough drops we think of eucalyptus. Eucalyptus is used for treating the common cold and all its side effects like coughing, mucous, sinus infections sore throat. Other uses are for insect bites and itching. Eucalyptus oil also has anti viral, fugal and bacterial effects. My favorite use for eucalyptus is during a cold. I like to take a bowl of hot water and create a tent with a towel over my head draped around the bowl. I will put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in inhale the steam. It works wonders for any cold, or virus and opens my repository passages.
For our Breast Cancer Awareness Giveaway please follow both Haute and Holistic and Little Moon Essentials on Instagram. Please tag three friends and comment with your favorite essential oil. We double check to ensure honesty.

Quinoa has been around for thousands of years and consumed by the native people of Peru, Chile and Bolivia. In recent decades quinoa has made it into health food stores as a new superfood because of its high protein content for a grain. Quinoa consumed is high in amino acids, vitamin E and Lysine. These all help make collagen, elastin and contain anti-oxidants, all of which help to rebuild and repair the skin.
Recently, quinoa is being used in cosmetics. Like with anything new in the cosmetics world, a plant must undergo studies to support any claims. There are two Quinoa studies cited in this article that show its promise for hair and particularly skin. This superfood is promising for diminishing fine lines, brightening the skin, and helping heal acne scars.
A study in the Int J Cosmet Sci. in 2015 demonstrated that quinoa contains tyrosinase inhibitors, an enzyme that decreases pigmentation and therefore brightens the skin and has been shown to be effective in reducing brown spots and hyperpigmentation keeping skin bright. Being rich in Riboflavin, a B vitamin, Quinoa helps with the production and regulation of melanin. The physical symptoms of aging skin are lessened through the reduction of intracellular oxidative stress and MMP (matrix metalloproteinases) enzymatic activity, and tyrosinase enzymatic activity.
Quinoa has the ability to help recover damaged skin and reduce aging of the skin and skin damage. Ecdysteroid is another compound in quinoa (J Biochem Mol Toxicol) that helps reduce damage and oxidative stress, helping to recycle skin matrix, particularly the structural proteins, collagen and elastin in the skin and aids acne scarring. Its antioxidant properties help reduce the aging process by rebuilding skin from matrix metalloproteinase) enzymatic activity.
Quinoa grounded like other scrubs made from grains, has a gentle husk or outside covering. Many women from Andean countries like Peru, Bolivia and Northern Chile have been using Quinoa to gently exfoliate their face for centuries. Make sure to use quinoa that is gently ground. Mix with an organic skin oil or water and gently rub into the face. Rinse with a damp cloth and make sure the quinoa doesn’t block the drain. If you don’t want to make your own there are several new products on the market using quinoa as a main ingredient.
When consumed as food, Quinoa is extremely high in antioxidants, which neutralize free radicals, and can help fight aging and several diseases. In a 2009 study, researchers found that among five grains, three grasses, and two legumes, quinoa had the highest antioxidant content of all. Compared to other foods, quinoa demonstrated superiority in disease reduction.
Quinoa protects against oxidative stress, which can damage and age skin and hair. It is important for readers to realize using quinoa alone will not cure their skin and hair issues. It is, however, another wonderful botanical that has demonstrated efficacy in treating hyperpigmentation and reducing oxidative stress.
After returning from a whirlwind week in New York City I wanted to share some of my personal favorites from IBENY 17 (Indie Beauty Expo). I was first introduced to some of these brands in May at IBE Dallas and am confidently retain them on the top of my list.
The brands that won me over meet a variety of prerequisites such as their low carbon footprint, personal mission statements, high quality ingredients and mindfulness towards health, not to mention their appeal to a wide range of consumers:
Kindred: I met Frances, the owner, at IBE Dallas and visited with her again in NY. Driven by her own skin challenges she created a line of high quality, organic oil based skin care. I love all the aspects of her products from the beautiful fragrance to the delicate nature of the non-greasy oils. Her cleansing oil is appreciably light which is unique among the crowd of organic cleansing oils. Kindred’s facial Oil Cleanser helped me break a 25-year habit using a market-leading Japanese cleansing oil. Also, her facial mask clays are formaldehyde-free, a known environmental toxin. Their newly released Eye Treat, which contains caffeine and botanicals, is a new favorite of mine. It’s perfect for my puffy allergic eyes and I use it morning and night. It’s perfect or those mornings when I wake up like Hitch. Kindred just released a solid moisturizer baton, which is compact and TSA-friendly for travel. As an added bonus, I love that the packaging on all Kindred products is designed for protection while travelling and it’s reusable. Many of the products have a light sandalwood fragrance.
Luk Beautifood: This luscious lip nourishment company from Australia really drew me in with its packaging (wrapped in reusable fruit-printed cloth to clean computer and phone screens) and its edible food-grade ingredients. Women ingest a lifetime of lipstick pigments, waxes and petrochemicals that contain heavy metals and toxic pigments, which are endocrine disrupters accumulating over a lifetime compromising our immune system (read more here). The fact that Luk Beautifood contains food grade ingredients places them at the top of my list. In fact, I had one for a snack on my way to JFK (JK). The company’s owner is a food scientist with years of experience behind herself in food testing, creation and preparation.
Luxe Botanics: This beautiful South African brand is sourced from high quality oils and fruits from South Africa. Not only is it brilliantly made, backed by science but a portion of proceeds go back to the communities that produce their core botanicals in Kenya, Brazil and Malawi. From Nature to Nuture, we love this brand. They have three core botanicals: Marula Oil from Kenya, Camu Camu Berry from Brazil, and Kigelia Africana from Malawi. Their products are made with pure botanical ingredients in combination with compounds synthesized from natural and organic bases. They are ethically harvested with science behind them. Luxe Botanics are vegan, cruelty free, and ethically and sustainably sourced. The founder and creator studied biotechnology in Australia. She had a successful nine-year career working for pharmaceutical in both Australia and Singapore, before deciding to pursue her dream of creating Luxe Botanics.
L’odaites: This tiny gorgeously packaged line is from France. With only five products, this line is derived from natural pure extracts from fruits, flowers or seeds. Using the fruit sugar from dates is an interesting concept. Through cold processing they maintain the integrity of the active ingredients. These date-based products are rich in minerals which support healthy skin, including the synthesis of collagen and elastin. A study in Pakistan treating facial skin with date extract improved elasticity, pigmentation, redness, brightness and hydration. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/cosmetics4020013
Osmia Organics: This line was created by Dr. Sarah Villafranco who left Emergency Room medicine to pursue a healthier lifestyle. Drawing on her medical background and after a lot of experimentation she created Osmia, a broad line of beauty products derived from consciously-sourced plant materials. Although I didn’t get to spend that much time with her, I was highly impressed by her line. Her personal story is compelling to all of us who are too afraid to make a change no matter where you are in life. I tried her Nectar vital rose drops and loved them. Her spot treatment which is used for breakouts is tea tree oil free making it ideal for people with sensitive skin.
Little Moon Essentials: This all-natural affordable line is one of my favorites. All the products are organic and made in Colorado. Their wonderful organic bath salt soaks are calming and restorative and I have personally used their products for years. It is a way to bring nature into your bathtub. I love their Clear Skies Ahead room spray, Dream Cream, and sugar scrubs. They have a cooling spray, called Lift Off, which is great to use after a day at the beach or when you’re experiencing hot flashes or both. This brand is very affordable for people looking to transition to green products. You can read more about detoxification through salt bath therapy here.
Olverum: This brand is simplistic and singularly focused producing a gorgeous German cult bath oil. The smell is out of this world. We met them at IBE Dallas and can’t get enough of their formulation of plant extracts, specifically selected for their traditional therapeutic properties. Olverum provides a luxurious synergistic nighttime experience from bath to bedtime. This treasured olfactory treat from the 1930’s has us swooning for it today.
Element Candles: Another company we met at the Indie Beauty Expo in Dallas and happy to see them in NYC has a unique collection of candles that are as clean as you’re going to find. Most people with allergies and respiratory issues must be careful of candles. They may contain heavy metals in wicks, toxic fragrance, petrochemical derived wax and they produce soot that gets into the air exacerbating respiratory illnesses. This candle has none of that. As an asthmatic I can get behind a product specifically designed to avoid all those problems.
Mitty: Say “goodbye” to disposable wipes! The Makeup Mitty helps you clean up your act without messing up the planet. This company offers large sizes for the face and a mini size for your eyes and other tiny areas. This product is a reusable low carbon footprint wash mitten. It is gentle enough to use on the most delicate skin. These Mitties outperform and outlast wipes and washcloths and in the long run reduce your carbon footprint. Being overly fastidious about my products I discovered that the Mitty can also double as a cleaner for cosmetic brushes.
Source Vital: These friends from the Indie Beauty Expo in Dallas and NYC have two products I’m crazy about: Deozein Zest deodorant and their Tranquil Multi spray. We have been crazy for their innovative clean roll-on deodorant for months. Making a switch to a clean deodorant can be tricky for some people during their transition from conventional products. Especially in hot locales like here in South Florida, it can be a smelly experience no matter how clean your diet is. We put it to the test. This deodorant performed wonderfully. It even survived Miami Swim Week castings. Deozein Zest is not just a cover-up, their formulas eliminate odor for both men and women. Source Vital formulates their deodorant with pure essential oils, natural mineral salts and seaweed extract, all known for controlling bacteria that cause odor. Source Vital is a broad-range company that has many full lines and custom formulas, but I had to mention our favorites.
Ayuna, Less is Beauty: This beautiful high-end line from Spain offers a small line of theory based products. We especially love their volcanic glass and carbon mask. This very gentle mask helps to draw out impurities, reduce skin sensitivity and leaves your skin feeling radiant and rejuvenated. The collection is elegant and complete.
Stay tuned for future writings on H&H as we continue to review other outstanding brands from the Indie Beauty Expo Dallas an New York.

It’s National Relaxation day! There are many ways to relax and quickly recharge your body, mind and spirit.
The easiest way to relax is for readers to plan a day trip somewhere outdoors with bad cell phone reception or taking all apps off their phone and restoring them after their trip. This effect has begun picking up speed in 2010 after Dr. Todd Braver, a neuroscientist and neuropsychologist at Washington University went into nature with four other colleagues to understand how the brain is over taxed my heavy use of technology. These scientists found that being outside in nature can refresh the brain and also increase attention and focus. Read more here
Another way to reset your body is with soaking in salt. I have traveled extensively to some of the saltiest places in this part of the world in both southern Bolivia and Northern Chile into the Salt Flats. These incredible places have salt and other minerals in the ground and your body literally feels different after being in nature and in the salt which has a very grounding effect. The beach is an incredible place to relax as well. The combination of being in nature and the salt water has a positive effect on the mind and body. If you can’t make it to the beach, I highly recommend soaking in salt baths. One of my favorite product lines is Little Moon Essentials that makes organic bath soaks for almost anything that is bothering you. It is a way to bring nature into your bathtub.
Another way to relax is to turn off your television. I only have one in my home and only watch it for movies for the most part. It is rarely on and never in any of the bedrooms of my home. Unfortunately, almost everything is toxic on television, especially the news and reality television. By taking a day a week to unplug and relax it will have a cumulative effect on the body.
I am off to the beach today! Have a great day today and don’t forget to take time for yourself!
Happy National Relaxation Day! Much love, Dr. Trattner and the H and H team
